Commission on the Lower Thames Ruins
Also called Oxford commissions
Oxford-sent parties of road clergy, survey clerks, relic bearers, ferrymen and escorts who from about 3956 A.C. tested London's ruins, measured stairs, sounded vaults and marked fragments for lawful return.
A commission of 3956 whose salvage-licence phrases, framed by Prior Osbert Aylesford, are still copied by clerks today.
