Stang Head garrison

A six-man blockhouse, the only one with its own chapel. A chaplain comes quarterly from Harrowgate, and between visits the serjeant reads the office. The drovers use it most.

Its well is inside the wall because of the Stang Head Sitting, a siege whose length is recorded only as tallies on the gatepost. A muster called for Stang Head got through, the only clear success in the muster book.
