Dover garrison

The permanent Crown garrison at Dover guarding the southern approaches, with its magazines and the guarded receiving masts used by sky vessels, fenced separately from the private yards at Archcliffe. Stores for the wall and county forces are landed at the garrison quay at Hythe.

At the table
An aerial arrival tightens Dover for an hour while garrison, customs and harbour clerks decide who owns what has come down. Its presence does not make the port-reeve a Crown subordinate. Garrison order is settled after a hull in distress is already in.
