Deepcut Company

The largest single working in the High South, quarrying freestone and the realm's only certified machine-stone, with a company hamlet, chapel and store. It holds a working lease from a party it pays and does not name.

The serious freestone quarry of the belt: three hundred men in season, a hamlet, a chapel, a company of its own and a well-kept road; its lower beds supply the machine-stone Cambridge certifies. The company working machine-stone at the Deepcut under leases older than three of the charters; the stone is certified only at Cambridge.

Its sorters are known by name in Cambridge; like the other quarries, nothing below the certified bed has been surveyed. Cambridge has the certificate and the Deepcut the stone, the gap in which the illicit trade grows. A 4592 attempt at joint examination failed over the Deepcut. Jointly held so it has never been shut in a dispute. Negotiates yearly with the Collegium over a rejection rate of over half; has three times asked for a resident Cambridge examiner. Uses a caged bird for air since 4590. Supplied the stone raft for the line's middle third.
